Members of the Parole Board of Canada have renewed day parole for a Fredericton-area man convicted of sexual offences, while raising concerns about the company he keeps at a halfway house.

According to a Jan. 20 decision outlining the reasons for a six-month extension, Michael Sorenson has already spent six months on day parole since last August. During that time, board members cautioned him about frequently associating with other individuals convicted of similar offences.

The report states that he had been advised to broaden his social circle, noting, “…you were told to try and spend your time with other people who do not have the same kind of offences as you.”
